What is an essay? An essay is in essence, a lengthy written piece that presents the author’s main argument, but sometimes the definition isn’t clear, sometimes overlapping with that of a simple report, newspaper, letter, article, pamphlet, or even a short story. Essays have been historically classified as academic and formal based on the purpose they were intended for, such as the university class or as an academic report for high school. John Locke’s essays and Conversations in 1690 included the first recorded essays. Essays have been utilized since then to communicate research findings, make opinions and defend a point of view. They also provide a way to examine themes through psychological methods.

An academic essay typically follows a logical order of thoughts and arguments. The sequence may be presented in a variety of ways, depending on the topic sentence and the context in which it is used. The topic sentence is the primary sentence of an essay. It outlines the primary idea of the essay. The topic, a particular aspect of science or a physical event could be the focus of an essay. It could be utilized to make an argument.

A narrative essay describes the events that have occurred and the reasons for the creation of the event. It does not necessarily follow a logical sequence however, the argument’s order is logical, and the evidence given to back up the argument usually supports the argument. Expository essays require meticulous planning and writing, as you need to not only correctly quote sources, but also correctly cite sources.

Now that you understand the different types of essays, you can begin to create your own unique style of essay. The best method to begin creating an essay is to begin with a story of your own or personal experience, followed quickly by the outline of your main argument, then the summary of your argument and conclusion. When you feel you have developed an impressive essay, you are able to concentrate on your style, organization, and content. Your writing style should be concise, clear and precise. However, you want to avoid a long, wordy, complex style. Finally, your organization must be simple and clear. Your essay should be clear and concise.
